Treatment for Volume Depletion, Deep Lines, and Aging Skin
As we age, the collagen and elastin fibers in our skin wear down causing wrinkles and folds to appear. With injectable fillers, we are able to fill in those deep lines and smooth over unwanted wrinkles. We can also use filler to restore volume to loose skin and to supplement areas such as the lips, cheekbones, hands - the possibilities are virtually endless! Fillers are a great option if you are concerned with aging skin and want a more youthful look but don’t want to go under the knife. It is an easy way to rejuvenate tired skin without any downtime.
Sonia's filler of choice is composed of Hyaluronic Acid (HA).
Our bodies are constantly making HA. One of the reasons we begin to display wrinkles and folds is because of the depletion of HA production in our own skin as we age. Interestingly, HA is a macromolecule which is identical in each of us and also throughout nature. Therefore, we can use a bacterium in a sterile lab to produce what is available for purchase to us in the form of syringes. There is no animal sourcing. Because each hyaluronic acid product is identical to our own, no skin test for allergy is required.
The effect of these HA fillers varies with the facial area injected. They will last longer in the cheeks and upper face as opposed to the perioral area where there is constant activity (ie. lips, smile lines). This is why different types of fillers are designed for specific areas of the face. An experienced and educated injector will know the difference as well as the drawbacks/benefits of using one product over another. An average length of time for the product to last depends on the movement of the injected area but ranges from 6-12+ months. There is also individual variation in the length of filler effect based on your body's metabolism.
The golden feature of Hyaluronic Acid fillers lies in its safety. HA is responsive to a naturally occurring enzyme called hyaluronidase. Injection of small doses of hyaluronidase will reduce the effect of the HA filler within 24 hours after injection. Therefore, unwanted filler can conveniently be removed if so desired.
